ARTISTIC REPRODUCTION No. 15 OF ETRUSCAN KYATHOS IN BUCCHERO

This is an artistic reproduction in terracotta of an ETRUSCAN KYATHOS in BUCCHERO. This reproduction is made entirely by hand, turned and graffitied by local artists. To obtain this result, it is cooked twice with ancient techniques, which the local master potters have managed to discover after many attempts to reproduce these vases.

They are also artificially patinated by hand to give the object an "antique" effect, the decorations even if they imitate the originals of the vases found in the Etruscan tombs of Cerveteri, and other necropolises are the result of the work and ingenuity of every master potter, and each work is unique and different from the other.

Kyathos (ancient Greek - shoveler; pl.kyathoi) is the name given in modern terminology to an ancient Greek painted vase with a tall, round, slightly tapered cavity and a single long, flat ring handle. A modern parallel could be the ladle, the kyathos in fact was used as a draw-off. The earliest known examples were produced around 530 BC. in the Nikosthenes workshop on the example of similar shapes in Etruscan bucchero and perhaps from bronze originals, as the handle seems to suggest, decidedly incongruous with respect to normal terracotta shapes. It is still found in the first half of the 5th century BC. becoming very rare in the following period and remaining typical of the mature and late period of black figures. (source wikipedia)

BUCCHERO is not a quality of purified clay, but a cooking technique that was only done in Etruria. It was used to reproduce terracotta vases that were made of metal, giving the black color the feeling of having metal objects, much more expensive and appreciated throughout the ancient world

This reproduction of KYATHOS is 15.5 cm high, with a foot of 6.3 cm and a diameter of 12 cm, with a maximum encumbrance of 16 cm, with a high handle with face at its end, with handmade artificial patination , like everything else. Reference number 15.

This is a unique piece, entirely turned, graffitied, baked and patinated by hand.

This reproduction travels with a certificate issued by our shop where it is certified that this vase is an artistic reproduction of an Etruscan bucchero vase, in the certificate there are photos of the vase, the day of purchase and the receipt or invoice number. (on request).
